Sport for Development and Peace

Chapter by Thomas Woodhouse in this edited volume

Tom Woodhouse has been researching on the SDP Sector (Sport Development and Peace) and has published a chapter in the Routledge Handbook of Sport for Development and Peace, in which he argues that sport has a strong potential to facilitate community level conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Peace and conflict researchers tend to ignore this area of work but it is an important way to reach large groups of young people especially who would not normally have any contact with or knowledge of academic peace research. Sport is or can be a great connector. More recently Tom has launched a website to chart and showcase the way in which the world of football engages positively with communities and community development.
